Someone is killing wizards. And they want everyone to know about it.

A string of ritual murders has the magical community on edge, and the killer is enjoying the attention, taunting victims along the way. Wizards who believed their power would keep them safe are learning otherwise. Fear is spreading, trust is breaking down, and no one knows who will be next. When a friend asks Justin to investigate, he doesn't hesitate. He knows the magical world better than most, and he knows that a killer this bold will not stop on his own.

Justin is a fallen angel, and he is also Death: the Grim Reaper, one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Two years after remembering his true nature, he is still recovering the powers and memories he gave up to live among humans. He is stronger than he was, but not strong enough to reclaim his title, and every step forward shows him how much he has yet to recover.

The case turns personal fast. Justin knows the killings are connected to him, but he can't tell who is behind them or why. Every clue leads him closer to the killer and to the truth about his own past. The killer's plan is racing toward a disastrous end, and the only one who can stop it is a Horseman who is still missing pieces of himself. Each new victim brings the ritual closer to its finish, and each answer Justin finds raises a harder question.

Time is running out, and the killer is always one step ahead. In this urban fantasy, the end of the world is never far from the next crime scene, and the detective may be the most dangerous thing in the room.

Death has to catch a killer before the ritual is complete.
