Amandia is a standalone novel set in the world of The Door of the Cosmos. It expands the Toroid universe with a new story that can be read without knowing the previous work.

At the northern edge of the Toroid, Amandia endures as a nation ravaged by desertification and sustained by the technomagic of synthetic mana. Its modern cities, protected by powerful borders, live unaware of the dangers that still linger beyond the desert: ancient creatures, forgotten kingdoms, and the growing shadow of the darlais.

In New Ailanthus, the most vibrant city in Amandia, five young men-the Sultans-survive among rival gangs, artificial lights, and a system that decides who rises and who falls. But when an unexpected event shakes the city, the boys are cast out of their technomagic safety and sent beyond the borders, into lands where sword and sorcery reclaim their strength, and technomagic becomes a scarce resource.
