Excerpt from Arbutus, 1918 Captain williams will be remembered as the organizer of Battery F, who was so efficient in getting results with his men, while at the same time he kept their love and respect. His remarkable character has been a big factor in giving Batterv its standing. Attery F of Bloomington was organized under Captain Kern neth Williams in April of 1917. Bryant Gelespie and Humphrey Barbour were. Made senior lieutenants. Claire Scott and Henry Springer were elected as junior lieutenants. As Gelespie and Springer were too young to receive commissions, Scott and Barbour became se nior lieutenants, while the junior lieutenancies were given to Earl Moore and Alan Buskirk. The battery was mustered in in May, and they were well drilled by the early part of August, at which time they left Bloomington for Fort Benjamin Harrison, and then to Camp Mills on Long Island.
