This book addresses architectured materials: new hybrid materials in which the constituent materials (even extremely dissimilar ones) are combined in a given topology and geometry to provide otherwise conflicting properties. The hybridization presented here occurs at various scales - from the molecular to the macroscopic (e.g. sub-centimeter). The book presents a collection of 28 chapters, defining archimats and summarizing the results obtained by using geometry-inspired materials design. Written by a group of authors who are active researchers working on various aspects of architectured materials, it provides definitions and descriptions of the archetypes of architectured materials and covers the various techniques used to design, optimize and manufacture them. Given its scope, the book offers scientifically sound information, and a source of inspiration, for readers from the materials science community and beyond.
