Reference Scope, Stated at Once

Here is a dense reference and practice volume for the Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management credential. It runs eight chapters, five full tests of 100 questions each, and a closing command center. The 19 figures, comparison tables, and worked cases keep five domains linked instead of siloed.

Why One Event Needs Eight Steps

A single medication error can raise safety, disclosure, insurance, regulatory, and litigation questions at once. The book answers that overlap with an editorial sequence of eight steps.

  • Stabilize, Classify, Identify the Authority, Preserve and Document, Notify and Escalate, Analyze, Control, Follow Through

Each step asks what the next action is, who owns it, and which rule governs. The sequence is a study tool, not an official algorithm.

Anatomy of the Volume

Chapters 1 and 2 build the foundation, and chapters 3 through 7 hold the tests.

  • Five 100-question tests, 500 items in all, each with its answer key and explanations
  • After each test, a mastery dashboard routes each miss to a domain and an error type
  • A fresh follow-up set of ten items after each test, built for weak areas
  • Five scored domains: clinical and patient safety, risk financing, legal and regulatory, operations, and claims and litigation
  • Worked setups for event rates, paid plus reserve, retention erosion, aggregate limits, and sublimit gaps
  • A one-fact-changes-the-answer table, a threshold card, and mnemonics with limits
  • Review schedules of 14 days, 7 days, and 48 hours, plus an exam-day workflow

Five Tests, Five Task Styles

The question style shifts from test to test, and each test has its own focus. Test 1 trains recognition and classification, while Test 2 drills workflow, sequence, and escalation. Test 3 builds realistic multifact application, and Test 4 presses on exceptions, boundaries, and competing priorities. Test 5 integrates parallel duties across event, claim, device, insurer, and regulator workflows.

Aimed at Decision Moments

Items are tied to decisions a risk professional makes under time pressure. You practice reading the final sentence, separating immediate action from later work, and naming the controlling authority. Explanations can show why the runner-up loses on timing, owner, or threshold. Misses are sorted into six error types for targeted review.

Bounded to the Earlier Blueprint

This edition follows the earlier published exam outline, in effect through January 10, 2027. It describes a two-hour test of 110 multiple-choice questions, 100 scored and 10 unscored. AHA and ASHRM have announced a revised exam starting the next day. This edition makes no claim to match it, so later candidates need materials aligned to the revised outline.

The Reader in View

Candidates who know the vocabulary and still need judgment practice are the target reader. Working risk professionals will recognize the cases, and state-specific points are marked as varying by jurisdiction.

Limits and Independence, Disclosed

The volume is independent study material. Neither AHA, ASHRM, PSI, nor any regulator or insurer wrote or approved it. These items are original, not recalled or copied from secure exam content. It offers no legal, coverage, or clinical advice. Check the official sources before relying on any rule.

Run the Sequence

Take a case, then name the problem, and choose the one action the question requires.
