Leaving the military is harder than anyone admits -- and nobody hands you the real briefing.
The official checklists tell you what forms to sign. They don't tell you what the paperwork actually costs, where the system quietly works against you, or how to walk out the gate on your own terms. Drop Papers is the guide a retiring service member actually needs, written by a Lieutenant Colonel who just walked the road himself: thirty years in the Marine Corps, from a nineteen-year-old kid off the South Side of Chicago to a retirement ceremony surrounded by the family and Marines who shaped him.
Structured around five clear phases -- from the first gut-check decision to the life waiting on the other side of the gate -- this book moves you through the Survivor Benefit Plan choice you can't undo, the VA claim most people file wrong, the healthcare and TRICARE decisions that follow you for life, and the SkillBridge and civilian-career strategies that turn separation orders into a real second act.
Honest, all-branches, and built for spouses and families as much as service members, Drop Papers replaces the sanitized brief with hard-won lessons from someone who has already stood where you're standing.
Whether you're twenty-four months out or already counting weeks, start here -- and clear the gate clean.
