The book sets out to provide a theoretical and preliminary framework for understanding Mozambique's national situation, using the "Dynamics of Complex Risks in Mozambique" as an analytical lens. This choice is justified by Mozambique's growing exposure to threats that transcend the nature of isolated risks, manifesting themselves as interconnected phenomena that are difficult to predict, with the potential to generate systemic and multidimensional crises.Mozambique presents a laboratory of complex risks due to its geographical and socio-economic situation. The exploitation of natural resources coexists with the risk of conflict (particularly in northern and central Mozambique), and climate vulnerability overlaps with chronic governance problems. Therefore, this book seeks to establish a robust theoretical framework, using concepts such as resilience, structural vulnerability and nexus (the link between security, development and humanitarian aid). In short, this introductory note points to the urgency of moving the risk discussion towards a holistic approach that captures the interdependence of the threats currently shaping Mozambique's development and security.
