The Fondation Beyeler has become one of Europe's most important and popular art museums. Its reputation is based on its high-quality collection of modern and contemporary art, which forms the heart of its program.
To mark the opening of the new museum building designed by Peter Zumthor, an expanded new edition of the collection catalogue is being published, including works by artists which have been added to the collection over the past ten years. In this book, the artists speak for themselves: their quotes, drawn from letters, interviews, or their own writings, offer a polyphonic perspective on working methods and thoughts on art. By incorporating their artistic voices, the past and the present are brought together, allowing us to look forward to the future of the collection. For, as Sam Keller, director of the Fondation Beyeler, says of Ernst Beyeler: "His museum is a living place for art. The best thing for him was when people left the museum with a smile."
