This book explores the scope for cooperation amongst the G20 and the diverging challenges and the intricate interconnectedness of policy options between advanced economies and the emerging market economies (EMEs) within the G20. At the outbreak of the global financial crisis, 2008, the G20 was widely acknowledged as helping prevent an even more serious decline in the global economy. It has played a major role in coordinating macroeconomic policies of major economies to revive the world economy. As the world s primary forum for international economic cooperation, the G20 s objectives have been to ensure more sustainable and balanced growth, to achieve economic and financial stability at the global and national level and to reform the prevailing international financial architecture. It helped to calm the panic in financial markets and articulate a set of possible policy options to restore global stability and growth.
