Currently, most developing countries around the world are experiencing rapid urbanization, and this trend has continued to expand over the past two decades. Rapid urbanization implies higher population density than in rural areas. However, this only means a rapid concentration of people, without a corresponding improvement in living environments. Consequently, a series of complex problems has emerged-challenges of a magnitude never before seen in human history. A considerable number of urban residents lack access to safe environmental management services and breathe polluted air. Poorly designed urban transportation systems also contribute to non-communicable diseases and injuries, including road traffic injuries, air and noise pollution, and barriers to safe physical activity. The rapid flow of people within cities also makes cities themselves disease transmission hubs that cannot be ignored. Therefore, how to address urban health issues from a multidisciplinary perspective and how to establish sound institutional and policy frameworks for good urban planning in a reasonable manner-so as to improve the health and well-being of urban residents-have become the most prominent urban issues of our time.

This book delves into a series of health-related problems arising from urbanization, with in-depth discussions in areas such as urban planning, geographic information systems, public health, and urban industrial economy. It offers unique insights from the cutting-edge perspectives of these fields. To advance the frontier exploration of healthy cities, this book aims to inspire readers' thinking and broaden their horizons.
