Angol
I Was, Am, Will Be is a bold, vulnerable, and genre-defiant poetry collection chronicling the three-month journey of Jonah Tarver, a 25-year-old Black American man drifting through Europe in search of healing, purpose, and self-definition. Reeling from heartbreak, career loss, and his father's dying health, Jonah leaves behind the weight of America to wander the streets of Spain, Greece, France, and the Netherlands, armed only with a pen, passport, and unresolved questions.
Through intimate vignettes and sharp lyrical verse, Jonah confronts the absurdities of race, the ache of love, and the echoes of grief. Each poem serves as a snapshot, sometimes hilarious, sometimes harrowing, of a man Along his heroic journey, he meets strangers, ghosts, lovers, and reflections of himself in the art, noise, silence, and shadows of unfamiliar cities, all while navigating the subliminal space between who he was, is, and who he might become.
This experimental collection of poetry, short stories, letters, and creative non-fiction, pulses with humor, rage, tenderness, and truth. I Was, Am, Will Be is not just a coming-of-age story, this book is a song of survival, a meditation on memory, and a love letter to the broken beauty of becoming.
