In "Idiocy and Its Treatment by the Physiological Method", Edward Séguin presents a pioneering approach to educating and caring for children with intellectual disabilities. Challenging the neglect and harsh treatment common in his time, he argues that systematic training of the senses, movements, emotions, and intellect can awaken abilities often thought to be hopelessly limited. Combining medical insight with practical teaching methods, Séguin offers both a compassionate philosophy and a detailed program for developing independence, discipline, and human potential.Idiocy - And its Treatment by the Physiological Method is an unchanged, high-quality reprint of the original edition of 1866.
