A common argument says Jesus defeated the devil as God -- that His divine nature gave Him an advantage no human could have. If true, His victory would be inspiring but unreachable for us.
But the Bible tells a different story. Jesus emptied Himself of independent divine power and came as the last Adam -- fully human, fully dependent on the Father, armed with nothing but the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. He had to become human to destroy the devil. He overcame temptation as a man. He went to hell as a man and came out as the King.
He did it deliberately -- as our pattern -- to show us that the same victory is possible for every believer who walks in that same Spirit. His victory is not something to admire from a distance. It is a road already walked. A pattern to follow. An inheritance already purchased. It belongs to you.
