Noldy Harland wants nothing to do with dead bodies. They're not in his job description. He's perfectly content living a simple life as a fishing guide in the small Northern Ontario mining town of Tear Falls.
Then he reels in the body of local environmental activist Ruby Karth.
Noldy chalks it up to bad luck-until a chance encounter with Teddy Campanella, a reclusive local, suggests otherwise. Teddy claims Ruby had uncovered a web of corruption running through the Tear Falls' mining industry: evidence of payoffs, insider trading, and a foreign government manoeuvring to gain control of Ontario's mineral-rich Ring of Fire.
Noldy starts digging for answers. But the deeper he goes, the harder it becomes to know who he can trust.
Soon, Noldy's quiet life is anything but simple. And as he follows the trail behind Ruby's death, he discovers that in Tear Falls, some people believe secrets are worth killing for.
