1969 West Jefferson, Ohio
When Celeste Ames' husband, Kelly, requires her to babysit three children under four years old while their mother is in the hospital, the Lake family drops heavily into her life. Celeste is the mother of two young children herself and is seven months pregnant.
When her baby is stillborn, she goes through agony and worries over her other two children. She does not want to leave them to return to work. Kelly insists that she get a job.
Bob Lake is also putting pressure on his wife, Pamela, to take a job that she doesn't want. This goes on for some time until she finally agrees. That job drops both families into a disastrous situation.
Bob Lake is found shot to death in his car, and both families seem to be under threat. Celeste does all she can to help the police detective who is investigating the murder, but her marriage is on the rocks, and her family is under threat.
Fighting her husband's betrayal, determining what to do about it, and trying to keep her children safe, is a moment -by- moment concern. Can she find her way out of this dilemma, or will there be another disaster to come?
