This book addresses the diagnosis and treatment of myocarditis. Myocarditis is a clinical syndrome, generally of infectious etiology, that occurs with a wide spectrum of relatively non-specific symptoms, and encompasses an inflammatory procedure of the heart with necrosis and degeneration of the myocardium by inflammatory infiltration of immune cells. The infection can result in direct injury of cardiomyocytes as well as immune-mediated devastation of the myocardium, ultimately resulting in cardiac dysfunction.
