Maya Newell was only fourteen years old when she was snatched off the streets and disappeared into the dark world of human trafficking. Now half a lifetime later her body still lives but her mind has long since fled, hiding in a faraway place where the horrors she endures daily can't touch it. When six men break into the home of the man who owns her she doesn't believe they're any different, because she doesn't believe in humanity anymore. They're full of promises of safety and freedom, but there is no real freedom for a mind already destroyed like hers is, and no safety for a woman owned by a sadistic psychopath.
For Thunder and his team, this is the closest they've come to finally getting their hands on the man responsible for changing them. Just because they aren't really monsters doesn't mean they won't rip Dr. Gardner to shreds the second they catch him. But he's fled his home before they get there, and the only link to him they have is a woman with empty eyes who doesn't speak, and is barely human anymore. Nothing they say or do seems to convince her that she is no longer property, and without her help they might never get their revenge.
