With luck and perseverance his only tools, the author describes both the grandeur and the pitfalls of an artist/sailor clawing his way through the twentieth century. His boyhood fascination for boats and the sea fueling his quest for adventure led him into an enviable lifetime on the edge. Each of this book's six parts - from World War II through his years in the Bahamas and Caribbean writing cruising guides, even exploring Italy single handed at age seventy two - he depicts as an adventure of sorts. Good reading for 20th centurions, Biographers, Sailors, World War II Veterans and armchair dreamers. His various boats, each with its own personality, are viewed through the mariner's legendary eye. Some salty of flavor. Others peppered enough to bite back.
