This volume addresses the tension between autobiography, fiction trauma, play and humour in a series of films, art, photography, literature, performances and blogs that appeared during the first decade of the new millennium in Argentina. In this book Jordana Blejmar argues that these works, many of them by children of disappeared parents, pay testament to a new cultural formation of memory in the post-dictatorship era. She focuses on a range of artists and writers that toy with history and which offer ludic accounts of the self, including Laura Alcoba, Lola Arias, Félix Bruzzone, Albertina Carri, María Giuffra, Victoria Grigera Dupuy, Mariana Eva Perez, Lucila Quieto, and Ernesto Semán. Challenging current tendencies in (post)memory and trauma studies, which are mostly focused on memories of victimhood and the spectacle of suffering, Blejmar shows how these artists look towards each other's autofictions across boundaries of genre and register, creating an unprecedented community of playful orphans. As such, she highlights the need to recognize the subversive power of self-figuration, play and humour when dealing with the legacies of the dictatorial past.§§
