Using Marxist and neo-Marxist analysist throughout, the book traces the legacy of racism from its origins to the present day. In the UK, it focuses on the continuing effects of colonialism on racism today, as well as looking at newer forms of racism. With respect to the US, this work charts the ongoing relevance of the attempted genocide of indigenous peoples, on the one hand; and of slavery, segregation and their aftermath, on the other, in the twenty-first century. As far as Australia is concerned, the book addresses Terra Nullius and its continuing effects on the indigenous peoples, as well as newer forms of racism and their contemporary effects. It makes the point that racism is endemic and multifaceted in the UK, the US and Australia, and that there are both similarities and differences in its various forms. It considers prospects for an antiracist multicultural twenty-first century socialism in the 'developed' world, looking at developments in Venezuela as an antiracist multicultural socialist society in the making.
