The verifiable facts relating to early Christian history are remarkably few. Traditional Christianity fills the gaps with a mixture of later tradition and the accumulated opinions of two thousand years of scholarly discussion. Yet, the methodology used to study the New Testament has immense weaknesses, making it entirely unreliable.
Many years of meticulous study of the New Testament texts, using a more robust methodology, have produced an alternative narrative of the earliest years of Christianity, which is dramatically different from that usually described. Nonetheless, it not only accords with all the established historical facts, but also with the New Testament writings themselves, clarifying many passages which cause difficulties in traditional interpretation.
This alternative history, together with the methodology on which it is based and summaries of the main discoveries it has unearthed, is the subject of this major work. It will be of great interest, not only to theologians and ministers, but also to all Christian believers.
