Everyone on the island of Specter Bay has a story. When a black cat with glowing yellow eyes shows up on your doorstep, it's time for your story to be told.
Everly isn't thrilled to move to the island of Specter Bay to live with her aunt and uncle. The island is eerie, her cousin is awful, and the kids at her new school aren't welcoming at all.
When Everly tells them she isn't afraid of anything, they make her prove it. After telling her the legend of the island and warning her of the ghosts that live there, they lock her in the school's basement. Everly doesn't believe the legend but when she hears creepy voices in the chilling darkness of the basement, she changes her mind.
What Everly likes best about her new home are the friends she meets in the woods. As much as she likes them, there is something odd about them that she can't quite put her finger on.
Strange things start to happen to the kids at school. A supernatural force seems to be granting Everly favors and whatever it is, wants to be paid back in full. She's about to find out how much damage angry, vengeful ghosts can cause.
