In Snow On The Mountain we follow the journey of a young man who decides to take a hike and ends up facing a mountain. He thinks, like a lot of us might think, that he can handle the challenge, that he's in "good enough shape to make the climb." But he quickly learns he's not. He quickly finds himself struggling to make that climb and dealing with all the mountain throws at him, the snow falling on his "uncovered head" and the "holes that others had fallen in." What we as readers and listeners soon learn is that his journey isn't as much physical as it is spiritual. And as his heart grows "cold and hardened" there's only one person, the Lord Jesus Christ, that can melt the mountain and warm his cold heart.
If you're anything like me, you probably have to admit that the feelings expressed by our sojourner In Snow On The Mountain have crept in far more often than you'd like. And if you're anything like me, during those times when you seemed so far from God, so distant from Christ and His Holy Spirit, you probably wondered if you'd ever find your way back. You probably thought you'd never recover to enjoy the peace, joy and love God offers each and every one of us every moment of every day.
But thank God that He never leaves us nor forsakes us! (Hebrews 13:5) And oftentimes it's during our times of deepest despair, our darkest hours, times when we think our cold hearts can never find His warmth again, that Jesus shows up to pick us up, to carry us, to comfort us and to let us know His presence.
