This volume contains a selected collection of peer-reviewed papers resulting from the StartUp Research: a stimulating research experience where 28 early-career researchers collaborated with 7 senior international professors of Statistics to develop novel statistical methods for complex brain imaging data. During this meeting, which was held on June 25-27, 2017, in Siena (Italy), the research groups focused on recent multimodality imaging datasets measuring brain function and structure, and proposed a variety methods for network analysis, spatial inference, graphical modeling, multiple testing, dynamic inference, data fusion and object-oriented analysis. The results of their studies are collected in this volume along with a final contribution by two experts in Statistics for Neuroscience, which opens new stimulating research directions in this field. This volume is addressed to researchers in Data Science and Neuroscience who are interested in the intersections among these two disciplines.
