In this epic fantasy, a magical woman on the run battles her way deep into a destroyed civilization, defeating abominable forces that hunger for her soul.
Even for someone as bloodthirsty and relentless as Tallah Amni, the city of Grefe is a hellish nightmare. Having escaped to the far-flung wasteland with her healer friend Sil, the amnesiac Other Vergil, and the once-brilliant Professor Ludwig, her sights are now set on a new goal: find a young girl who went missing in these ruins while under Ludwig's supervision. But as the team continues their journey, she discovers that magic is distorted, and the life-giving illum that sustains her powers is lethal in this realm.
Now stuck in a seemingly helpless situation, Tallah and her allies are alone in facing the trials ahead. As the group descends deeper into the ruins, they come across ferocious spider-human hybrids and other formidable foes infesting the city. Even with help from the souls Tallah has absorbed from old companions, Grefe is proving itself to be a place of torture, scientific perversions, and unspeakable betrayal fueling undying hatred.
Now, among these myriad horrors, a wicked enemy prepares to strike, in the hopes of fashioning Sil into the host for its monstrous rebirth. To prevent her friend from becoming a womb for ever more unholy creations, Tallah must even the odds by unleashing the evilest of the souls she has taken. And with time running out and no other options, she will harness the city's-and her own-darkest secrets to uncover long lost knowledge hidden deep inside an ancient library . . .
