The home is the first school of faith. Long before a young man stands in a pulpit, the patterns of love, leadership, and faithfulness have already been shaped around the table and in the ordinary work of family life. These studies were written for men who will teach others, yet they begin where every lasting ministry must begin-with the household God has given them.
What began as classroom notes for preacher training in the Pacific Islands has grown into a textbook that can serve both the classroom and the personal library. The biblical foundation is clear. The applications are concrete. My hope is that readers will find the same careful attention to Scripture that has guided my teaching for many years, together with the warmth of illustrations drawn from real homes.
May these pages help the next generation of preachers and their families build what God intends: homes that honor Christ, train children in the way of the Lord, and stand as living witnesses in their communities.
The book is arranged in seven sections. The first establishes God's design for marriage. The next two address the distinct callings of husbands and wives. The fourth examines the character of love that endures. The fifth offers practical help when trouble comes. The sixth treats the raising of children. The final section prepares the young for the choices that lead to marriage.
It is my prayer that these studies will strengthen the homes of those who use them and will equip preachers to speak clearly about the family God intended.
