At a Budapest archive, Eszter discovers that recordings made for research and preservation have been transformed into a synthetic "heritage voice" for museums, care homes and premium memory services. The institution calls it innovation. The company calls it access. Eszter calls it what it is: a dead woman being made to consent after death.
Her investigation forces her into an uneasy alliance with Márton Keres, a widowed sound-restoration expert who warned the archive before the project began. He knows the machines, the missing records and the institutional compromises. She knows donor agreements, legal language and the price of letting polite euphemisms bury the truth.
As they trace altered files, hidden permissions and commercial plans, suspicion turns into trust, and trust into a mature, smouldering attraction neither expected. But exposing the archive may cost Márton his career, Eszter her standing, and both of them the fragile possibility of a life beyond duty.

In een archief in Boedapest ontdekt Eszter dat opnamen voor onderzoek en conservering zijn omgevormd tot een synthetische 'erfgoedstem' voor musea, woonzorgcentra en commerciële herinneringsdiensten. De instelling noemt het innovatie. Het bedrijf noemt het toegankelijkheid. Eszter ziet een dode vrouw die na haar dood alsnog toestemming in de mond krijgt gelegd.
Haar onderzoek dwingt haar samen te werken met Márton Keres, een weduwnaar en expert in geluidsrestauratie die het archief vóór de lancering had gewaarschuwd. Hij kent de machines, de ontbrekende documenten en de compromissen achter gesloten deuren. Zij kent de overeenkomsten, de juridische formuleringen en de schade die ontstaat wanneer eufemismen belangrijker worden dan mensen.
Terwijl ze verborgen bestanden, twijfelachtige toestemmingen en commerciële plannen blootleggen, groeit hun wantrouwen uit tot vertrouwen, en hun vertrouwen tot een volwassen, smeulende aantrekkingskracht.
