Anyae Odaren, the General of an elite fighting force called the Eastern Wind, finds herself caught in a centuries old war she wants no part of. Anyae has spent her life as a soldier of Eastern Algëra, a remnant of a country that split years ago because of the very war she is fighting today.
Due to rising tensions between the East and their enemies, Anyae's cousin and Commander, Theodore Odaren, calls upon the help of Southern Algёra and its military, the Southern Wind. The South sends its favorite son to assist the East, a young General named Karrak Delmore. Even though Theo asked for reinforcements from the South, Karrak enters the East without an army at his back. Karrak's only companion is a man called Luke Seeger who claims to be an ambassador of the Mountains of Hilmar, the Northern territory that provoked Algëra into starting the old war afresh.
Forced to fight alongside allies she doesn't trust, Anyae learns that there's more behind this war than she expected... and she may not survive much longer.
