About the Book You Are Holding in Your Hands:
The Flight That Never Happened
They were ready for Vietnam.
Fifteen years of dreaming, months of planning, passports checked, bags packed. A journey that was supposed to take them from Jersey to China and then on to Vietnam.
Instead, at Gatwick Airport, everything stopped.
Denied boarding.
The reason seemed almost impossible: a computer system could not recognise their British passports as being issued in the Bailiwick of Jersey. The flight departed without them. Their dream disappeared into the distance.
But what followed was stranger still.
A cancelled journey took them to Spain, where unexpected encounters began to unfold. A mysterious old man from the plane appeared again on a beach. A stranger from Australia offered coffee that was not quite his to give. A car was mysteriously booked in their name. Messages arrived that nobody had sent. And then came the flood in Vietnam-the country they had been supposed to visit.
Watching the disaster unfold on television from their apartment in Calahonda, memories from childhood began to return.
Vietnam.
A mother.
A village.
A house.
A story that had always been believed to come from a book.
But what if it wasn't a story?
What if it was a memory?
And what if the old man had been there before?
The Flight That Never Happened is a story about a journey that was stopped before it began-and about the strange road that opened instead.
Part travel story, part mystery, part memory, it moves between Gatwick, Spain, Vietnam and the hidden corners of the past, created a suspense fiction, asking how much of our lives is coincidence and how much has been waiting for us all along.
This is fiction. But much of what happens in these pages really happened.
And sometimes the flight you never take is the one that changes everything.
