The primary question asked of Commissioner Harper and DCI Bryant was, "How could anyone steal 40 tons of gold off the Bank of England?" As if that wasn't bad enough, a further loss of 8 tons of gold from the same bank occurred barely months later without a clue. It didn't take DCI Radey and her bosses long to realise that this robbery was not conducted by thugs or armed crooks. Instead, it had been conducted by extremely brilliant people with differing skill levels. What astonished the inspector's was that the second gold robbery was equally brilliant if not as spectacular: that time the bank staff had actually loaded the gold onto the waiting trucks.Concurrently, car robbery got their attention. Soon the investigation escalated encompassing major car and motorbike producers in the country. The problems facing the detectives became "How do you steal 50 brand new cars off a company parking lot?" Once again, there was no smash and grab, in fact no violence at all. However, the murder that occurred seemed well out of character for the group. Once again, it took detectives from all the departments to gather further evidence of other major car manufacturers being robbed, some in an entirely different manner, for them to realise just what had been going on for some time. As the investigation progressed, they found that programming knowledge had fooled even the most sophisticated data protection systems.
