Elias Mercer takes a night-shift position at Bellwether Cold Storage hoping that routine, isolation, and honest work will help him rebuild his fractured life. Instead, he begins receiving instructions from Arthur Vale, an experienced maintenance worker who appears to know every failing machine, every concealed passage, and every disaster moments before it happens.
There is only one problem: Bellwether insists that no employee named Arthur Vale has ever existed.
The instructions save lives, but each act of obedience carries Elias deeper into the hidden history beneath the facility. As records change, memories contradict one another, and familiar voices begin calling through disconnected telephones, Elias is forced to question whether Arthur is a ghost, a psychological manifestation, an erased employee, or something created by decades of fear and recognition.
