At nine o'clock on a September morning, a bomb explodes at Reykjavík Airport. At the same moment, a long-prepared operation moves into the open: men who entered Iceland as tourists collect weapons, airports and key sites come under attack, and a country with no army faces a threat it has never had to meet. Within days, Iceland is occupied.

Þóra Kristjánsdóttir of the Viking Squad escapes the first assault and searches for people who can still move beyond the occupiers' surveillance. Ari Þorvaldsson, Guðrún Halldórsdóttir, and members of the government are held captive in Ísafjörður. In Reykjavík, journalist Katrín Eiríksdóttir must choose between the silence that may keep her alive and the account that might reach the world outside.

The story follows people in government, emergency response, journalism, and ordinary homes as communications fail, hospitals are forced into brutal priorities, and an international alliance measures every word against the risk of a wider conflict. The resistance is small, scattered, and vulnerable. It depends on people who do not know the whole chain but choose to carry one link forward.

*The Russians* is a novel of occupation, silence, and the cost of refusing to let fear decide who a person is.
