The Shadow Over the Silverbend
Marlowe Quickpaw is Riverpost's most dependable mail carrier. Every morning, he loads his leather satchel, checks his pocket watch, and rows the Silverbend River delivering letters and parcels to the animals who live along its banks.
Then the lighthouse begins going dark at exactly midnight.
A registered letter arrives for the missing keeper. A strange red wax seal appears on the lighthouse steps. An iron key is found in the mud, and a mysterious scholar takes a room at the Willow Inn. Marlowe soon realizes that someone is using the darkness to search the deepest part of the river for a secret lost many years ago.
With the help of Wrenna Reed, a sharp-eyed kingfisher and newspaper reporter, Marlowe follows the clues through ferry landings, ropewalks, abandoned docks, and the shadowed waters of Blackwater Pool. To protect Riverpost, he must uncover who is behind the midnight darkness before the secrets of the Silverbend fall into the wrong paws.
The Shadow Over the Silverbend is the first richly illustrated adventure in the Marlowe Quickpaw Mysteries, a chapter-book series filled with memorable animal characters, clever clues, gentle suspense, and mystery along every bend of the river.
