After the fall of Jerusalem, the Knights Templar were forced to relocate to a temporary base outside the Saracen-held port of Acre. Within days, Sir Guillaume Cadeil is informed that the secret treasure he carried from the Temple Mount has been stolen from their new treasury.

The implications might be devastating for both the Order and Christianity itself, should the contents of this ancient parchment - the source of the Templars' immense power - be revealed.

Sir Guillaume's quest to locate and recover the parchment will lead him from Acre to Damascus, Rome, Tyre and Tripoli, before he returns to the siege of Acre.

Along the way he and his faithful sergeant, Andrew, will face many dangers from the most unexpected quarters - as well as kindness from enemies and friends alike.

The arrival of King Richard of England, who will lead the attempts of the Third Crusade to recapture Jerusalem from Saladin, threatens to interrupt Sir Guillaume's quest, especially as a murderous priest appears to have intervened.
