It moves to a modern professional whose identity disappears during a seven-minute video call, then to a solitary astronaut traveling toward Mars, and finally billions of years into the future, where the last human being prepares to leave Earth beneath a dying Sun.

The second half of the book turns those questions toward the reader. Across thirteen full moons, each meditation combines a short reflection, a classical composition, and an original rustic dialogue exploring time, contentment, companionship, wisdom, mortality, justice, work, uncertainty, and integrity.
