A generation on, and the post 9/11 world is still reeling from its aftermath. The USA has all but isolated itself from the rest of humanity, and the remainder of the planet is in turmoil - the conflict over Kashmir has finally erupted, and the need for sustainable energy is more urgent and competitive than ever before. Our protagonist, Jake, emerges from a solo hunting trip in the Wyoming Tetons, into a country which has been abandoned by its people. The streets are filled only with silence, and heavy with portent. What could possibly have caused such a sudden mass exodus? In fear for his family, and his life, Jake treks across North America towards his home in Virginia, looking for answers, for clues, any sign of civilisation...
